Last Tuesday, Sky Deutschland stated Aston Villa and Chelsea have made firm approaches to sign TSG Hoffenheim star Maximilian Beier this summer.
The striker starred for the Bundesliga side last season, managing 16 goals and three assists from 33 league games. It’s no surprise he’s caught the attention of several clubs.
Sky Deutschland journalist Patrick Berger claims both Aston Villa and Chelsea have made ‘concrete offers’, without mentioning details of the bids they tabled.
Borussia Dortmund could leave the Premier League and Juventus behind in the chase for the 21-year-old. Niclas Füllkrug is set to leave BVB, and this has forced them to look for a new striker in the market.
The Champions League finalists have set their sights on Beier, and have already started talks. Berger says they could make a concrete approach this week and the player would be open to joining them.
Beier’s €30m clause has expired, but Hoffenheim could still sell him if there’s an offer between €25m and €30m. Dortmund, for their part, are planning to make a bid of around €25m.
Berger’s claim is echoed by his colleague at Sky, Florian Plettenberg. He adds Aston Villa, Chelsea and Juve are ‘still there’ to sign Beier, but BVB currently have a ‘good chance’ to secure his services, if they decide to go ahead with this operation.
Therefore, Aston Villa and Chelsea have to step up quickly and convince the German, if they wish to sign him in this window.
