Aston Villa could be in line to receive money if Napoli were to buy goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini in the summer, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
The Italy international spent two years at Aston Villa between 2016 and 2018, before he was sold to Atalanta, where he’s been sent out on loan elsewhere since the start of the 2021/22 season.
The former Aston Villa man has been on loan at the Naples club since January 2023 and they have an option to make his stay permanent after this season.
As per TMW, the buying option is set at €7m and it’s said Unai Emery’s side can receive 10% of that fee, if he were to be sold in the summer.
Although this won’t be a huge amount for Aston Villa, they would certainly welcome it on a player they will have long forgotten about.
This is mentioned in a report that states AS Roma manager Daniele De Rossi appreciates the stopper’s qualities and Gollini would suit his style of play.
Gollini’s situation is a bit strange since both his loan deal at Napoli and his permanent contract with Atalanta last until June.
In other words, the goalkeeper will be without a club from July 1st, after which Napoli or any other team can sign him for free, so paying €7m for him at this point wouldn’t make a lot of sense.
