Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion are today named in the race for Lens defender Facundo Medina.

The story is brought by French journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who writes that besides drawing attention from Spain and Italy, the 23-year-old also has the interest from Premier League clubs.

The report claims that Aston Villa and Brighton are ‘on the case’ for his signing and have been ‘attentive’ to his performances, even though it’s not detailed whether these clubs have placed their bids yet.

Medina joined Lens on a €3.5m move from Argentine side Talleres in 2020, and is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €16m.

This isn’t the first time Aston Villa are linked to the defender. Last month, we saw reports from Italy speaking about the pursuit of him, and claiming that the French club had been demanding over €30m for his move in January.

With more clubs, including Brighton, now joining that competition, it’s unlikely that Lens will drop their requests in this summer.

And they seem to be very serious about their stance, since a €17m bid from England was reportedly turned down in the winter.
