Riqui Puig is the current greatest hope of La Masia.

The 19 year old has been highly rated for some time and there was a danger of him leaving for Tottenham earlier this year, with great relief when the youngster instead put pen to Barcelona paper.

At the weekend, The Mirror reported Everton have joined Tottenham in the race to sign the youngster this winter.

The English newspaper stated: ‘Everton signed both Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina from Barca in the summer and are hoping that will give them the edge over their Premier League rivals.

Both Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and Everton counterpart Marco Silva have a good reputation for developing young players.

Barca are almost certain to want to include a buyback option in any deal.’

This has made it’s way to the Barcelona media, and Mundo Deportivo have a small article on it, assuming The Mirror meant a loan. That’s because it would be absolutely unthinkable for the club to sell the player, they’d have fans up in arms.

Puig plays for Barcelona’s B team and recently made his debut for the senior side. The club simply aren’t looking to sell him, and the prospect is so odd for Mundo to accept, they’ve assumed the whole idea must be a loan.

Even that is unlikely.
