Arsenal were keen on signing Neto in the winter market, but the deal didn’t go through because they couldn’t find an agreement with Barcelona.
The Gunners still retain an interest in the goalkeeper and on July 20th, Mundo Deportivo reported Arsenal are ‘determined’ to sign him in the summer.
It was also explained the agent feels the north London club are the ‘most viable option’ for the 31-year-old.
Neto has struggled for regular minutes and is looking to join a new club where he can enjoy more playing time next season. That’s according to today’s Mundo Deportivo.
The La Liga side, for their part, are ‘forced to open the door’ because they need to lower their wage bill and in the post pandemic market, Barca feel Neto’s salary is high for a backup keeper.
It’s claimed both the custodian and the Catalan club are ‘working to find a destination’.
There’s still €14m left for Barca to amortise his signing and that’s the fee they are looking to cash in from his sale.
Ronald Koeman’s side are also open to letting Neto go out on loan in order to save on his salary.
However, the options handled by Neto ‘have been falling apart’ and this includes Mikel Arteta’s side. As per the report, Arsenal’s ‘contacts have cooled in recent hours’.
With Arsenal cooling off their interest, Neto and Barcelona must continue in their efforts to find a new club.
