Ajax are eyeing up a move for Arsenal youngster Ayden Heaven, with the 18-year-old’s contract set to expire in the summer.
That’s according to the ‘Done Deal’ podcast, relayed by Voetbal 4 U, who have discussed the situation and likened the youngster to Fulham’s Calvin Bassey.
According to the podcast, Ajax have set their sights on Heaven, who currently plays in Arsenal’s reserve side.
The youngster has been with the Gunners since 2019, after joining their youth sector on a free transfer from West Ham.
He’s been working his way up the ranks at the Emirates since then, making 11 appearances for the U18s, 10 for the UEFA U19 side and 26 for the U21s.
He has also made his debut in the first team, playing 10 minutes in the EFL Cup win over Preston at the end of October.
However, whether the centre-back, who can also play left-back, remains at Arsenal long-term remains to be seen with his current contract set to expire in the summer and no sign of a renewal.
That means he is free to talk to clubs from Europe as of 1st January about a potential move under the Bosman ruling, and it seems this has piqued Ajax’s interest.
“He is a left-footed central defender,” said Kaj Ramstein.
“He is physically strong and really dares to play football, but I didn’t find it super convincing. Hato is just as old, he doesn’t have that level. Hato is simply a super talent.
“If you also compare him to Baas: when you see how easily Baas plays football… Heaven also tries to play football, but with Baas it is much easier. I’m getting a bit of Bassey vibes from him. Heaven can play better football than Bassey, but you just see a chunky Englishman…”
