Arsenal are yet to contact Real Sociedad about a move for Mikel Merino, but his arrival at the Emirates is seen as ‘a matter of time’.
That’s according to El Diario Vasco, who say Arsenal are yet to get in touch and the Spanish midfielder has returned to training with La Real as a result.
They explain that despite numerous reports and confidence Arsenal will be signing Merino this summer, they have not yet contacted Real Sociedad to convey an offer to them.
All of the Spanish club’s focus is currently on Merino, who has a proposal on the table from Arsenal after they contacted his agents weeks ago.
Real Sociedad have shown a willingness publically to do a deal, but Arsenal are yet to make a firm offer or even get in touch with their Spanish counterparts.
It has been suggested that they are perhaps hesitant because of his age or the €60m clause in his contract but El Diario Vasco dismiss both, insisting Arsenal know all the details given their extensive contacts with his agents.
That means they’re more than happy with his age and know that any deal is likely to cost around €30m as Merino is in the final year of his deal.
The general consensus is that it is ‘a matter of time’ before he ends up playing or Arsenal as he wants the move, and they want him. He’s also ignored a renewal offer, hinting that his future lies away from Real Sociedad.
Until Arsenal actually get in touch and make an offer, though, that is no closer to becoming a reality.
