While most transfer windows seem fairly straightforward, the summer of 2017 appears to be one filled with twists and turns few were expecting, including failed medicals.

The likes of Jordan Amavi and Patrik Schick have seen transfers to Sevilla and Juventus collapse due to unconvincing test results (although things may not be so clear in Amavi’s case), and now we have another one, this time affecting Arsenal.

According to Sud-Ouest in France, Wellington Silva, once contracted with the Gunners, will not be joining Bordeaux from Fluminense after the Ligue 1 side deemed his performance during the medical inadequate.

The exact reason has yet to filter through, but the newspaper are adamant the winger will not be joining Bordeaux, and that means Arsenal won’t get any money from the deal.

According to a previous report in L’Equipe, the Gunners were said to have inserted a buy-back clause when they sold Silva to Fluminense, which they triggered in order to sell him to Bordeaux for a small profit of around €1m.

Whether that means Arsène Wenger is stuck with Wellington Silva all over again remains to be seen, but you would think they’d have included some kind of safeguard that would see him return to Fluminense in case a deal fell through, which it now has.

We’ll have to wait and see.
