As Arsenal continue to be named as one of the potential destinations for Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres, we get to see a strong claim about this chase today.
That comes from Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, who highlight the ‘historical’ season the striker is having with the Lions.
After showing all the impressive numbers Gyokeres has reached so far, the outlet points out that Arsenal are ‘leading the way’ to sign the striker, and ‘willing to pay’ his €100m release clause.
That’s a quite impressive statement, because even though several clubs have been linked to the player lately, the price for his exit has always seemed like an obstacle for a summer transfer.
Sporting spent €21m to sign Gyokeres from Coventry City last summer, but it’s no surprise that they demand €100m now. He has 36 goals and 14 assists in his first year at the club so far, and is responsible for nearly all the success they’re having this season.
Since it’s known that there’ll be a big battle for his signing, Arsenal would probably be right in preparing themselves to pay the €100m.
