Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi has only rejected Arsenal ‘for now’ and would be interested in joining them in the summer.
That’s according to ‘Què t’hi jugues’ on SER, relayed by Mundo Deportivo, who say that the player is ‘more inclined to leave for the Premier League’ over joining Barcelona if he is to leave Real Sociedad in future.
They explain that Zubimendi has found himself on Arsenal’s radar thanks to his performances this season and his €60m release clause is seen as ‘an affordable figure’ for them.
According to ‘Què t’hi jugues’ on SER he wants to finish the season in Donosti so he can ‘make history’ with the Spanish club. He will then ‘evaluate the offers’ that may arrive in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona are keeping an eye on him as well and consider him a prime candidate to replace Sergio Busquets but at the moment Zubimendi is ‘more inclined’ to join Arsenal than stay in La Liga, if he is to leave Real Sociedad.
So, his no to Arsenal this month is not a permanent one, but more of a ‘not right now’. Similarly, it is not a no because he is waiting for Barcelona.
It is simply a rejection out of loyalty to the Basque club at this point in the season but he is willing to move to the Emirates once it is over.
