Earlier this week, we relayed news from Spain that Arsenal and West Ham United have joined the chase for Villarreal star Samuel Chukwueze.
Wednesday’s El Periódico Mediterráneo backs it up as they state the Gunners and David Moyes’ side are among several clubs in the picture to sign the winger.
Real Madrid are also after the 23-year-old and both Arsenal and West Ham will be their ‘rivals’ in the race to secure his services.
The Nigeria international has a contract until 2024 and it includes a €80m release clause. The Yellow Submarine are trying to convince him to sign a new deal and lower his clause. The renewal remains complicated due to the interest shown by Mikel Arteta’s side, the Hammers and others.
Chukwueze has starred this season, managing 13 goals and 11 assists from 42 matches. Even though he’s grateful to the La Liga side for giving him a platform, the report states he ‘cannot miss the opportunity to sign a multimillion-dollar contract’ at another club.
The duration left on his deal gives the attacker an upper hand. With Arsenal and West Ham among the clubs chasing him, Villarreal continue to refer to his €80m clause.
If Chukwueze refuses to sign a new deal, the report states Villarreal will have to sell him for €40-50m in the summer, to avoid losing him for free in 2024.
Real Madrid joined the race to sign the player after he scored a brace at the Bernabéu.
They will face competition from Arsenal, West Ham and others to acquire Chukwueze’s signature in the summer.
