Cédric Carrasso is on the verge of signing for Galatsaray. The 35 year old French goalkeeper left Bordeaux at the end of his contract in June and has had an uncertain summer filled with some very different offers.

Carrasso could now be an Arsenal player, according to himself. Speaking to L’Equipe, the free agent explained there’d been talks over moving to the Emirates, where he’d been asked to third choice and not involved so much, but was still keen… because Arsenal is Arsenal.

Asked why a move to Portugal’s Sporting failed, Carrasso said: “This offer I accepted. Everything was OK but it messed up. There was a bug with the agents there. Same for Arsenal. Arsene (Wenger) wanted to work with three good goalies. I had to go as a third. At the beginning, I said to myself: ‘Third to do nothing, if not to be in the group, it is not very interesting.’

“After, I said to myself: ‘It’s Arsenal all the same!’ And there was still this problem of agents.”

Quite why agents should be a problem when a free agent joins Arsenal isn’t explained, and it’s a curious factor more likely to be on the player’s side than that of the London club.

In early August Arsenal loaned Emiliano Martínez to Getafe for a season, and perhaps signing Carrasso would have been to cover that.
