Arsenal are ‘trying to extend’ William Saliba’s contract at the club, with them in ‘ongoing negotiations’ about a new deal.

That’s according to RMC Sport, who say the Gunners currently don’t have an option to extend his deal, which expires in 2024.

Saliba returned to Arsenal in the summer after a loan spell away from the club and has established himself as a key player in their defence, forming a defensive partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes that has formed their title bid.

RMC explain that the player, who has been out injured since March, is set to return at the end of June or the beginning of July.

Alongside his work to return to the pitch, Arsenal ‘have started to negotiate an extension’ to his current deal, which expires next summer.

Arsenal’s leaders are focused on getting the defender signed to a new and extended deal after already activating an option to extend his deal by a year at the end of 2022.

The France international currently only has a year left on his deal and that situation is ‘far from ideal’ for the Gunners, who know that Saliba ‘enjoys a good rating’ on the market and has already received three enquiries from ‘three leading clubs’ about a potential move.

Arsenal obviously don’t want that to happen, and negotiations are now underway to extend his contract at the Emirates, although for now ‘no agreement has been reached’.
