For months, the Italian press was pretty sure that Lucas Torreira would leave Arsenal to return to Serie A this summer.
But with Fiorentina, Torino and other sides failing to find an agreement for the midfielder, it now looks he’s moving elsewhere.
Tutto Mercato Web writes on Wednesday evening that Torreira is close to joining Atletico Madrid. They claim his transfer could be done on Thursday or Friday.
It’s said the final details for the move are now being sorted, and the Uruguayan international should soon sign his contract with the Colchoneros.
Arsenal spent €29m to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria in 2018. In his two years at the club, he made 89 appearances for the Gunners, but doesn’t seem to have convinced manager Mikel Arteta, who didn’t even use him at this start of season.
Tutto Mercato Web doesn’t say how much Atletico Madrid are paying for the transfer. Torreira has a contract with Arsenal until 2022, and is valued by Transfermarkt at €30m.
