Back in January, there was a brief period when Jannik Vestergaard was linked with both Tottenham and Arsenal thanks to TuttoMercatoWeb.
We covered it at the time, with the latter of the two allegedly plotting a summer move for the Denmark international, and it appears the wheels are now in motion.
At least, that’s what Il Tempo believe on Tuesday, as they mention both Spurs and the Gunners as rivals for Lazio, as they target the centre-back in an attempt to fill the void left by Stefan De Vrij’s departure.
The Serie A side’s desire is to try and get a deal done before the end of the World Cup, where the Borussia Mönchengladbach defender is currently featuring for his country, although they aren’t quite ready to offer the €20m being quoted in Germany.
Lazio are willing to offer around €12-13m for the 25-year-old, which is a fee Arsenal and Tottenham wouldn’t have any issues matching if their interest proves serious.
Mauricio Pochettino could end up needing to bolster his defence in the coming weeks if Toby Alderweireld ends up going elsewhere, while Unai Emery seems intent on rebuilding that area of the pitch, having already signed Stephan Lichsteiner while being in the process of bringing in Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund.
We haven’t seen anything from Germany regarding this, so we won’t fully back the resurgence of this story just yet.
Considering it’s once again originated from Italy, it could merely be a ploy from someone down Vestergaard’s end to drive the price up.
