The Brazilian media has today published mixed claims regarding Chelsea’s efforts to give Willian a new contract. And none of the scenarios look good for the Blues.
It was first Goal who said the player rejected the latest approach from the Stamford Bridge side. He continues to wait for a three-year contract, and turned down another offer for a two-year deal.
The report claims that Willian, who’s held ‘informal talks’ with Arsenal and Tottenham, will only decide his future after the Champions League.
But something different was reported by Esporte Interativo journalist Fred Caldeira, who says this issue may be sorted sooner than that.
Fred Caldeira says Chelsea haven’t made new offers for the player’s renewal, as the last contact with the player was before the Coronavirus break.
He points out that the Blues never had the ‘posture of negotiators’, and given the lack of talks, Willian felt devalued by the club.
Caldeira says that Arsenal and Barcelona are the clubs who’ve been interested in him, and ‘talks evolved in the past few hours’, with the expectation of a decision this week.
Regardless of which report is right, it seems Willian’s days at Chelsea are numbered, and Arsenal have a big chance to land him.
