One of the stories that tried to launch itself recently was the idea of a swap deal between Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira and AS Roma’s Amadou Diawara.
Different newspapers had various takes on the subject, but there has never been anything concrete as far as we could tell.
It hasn’t gone much further, but Corriere dello Sport do explain it’s an operation that ‘could take off’ in the future.
They point out the Arsenal midfielder is an ‘old favourite’ of the Serie A side, having been on their radar back when he was at Sampdoria prior to his move to the Emirates.
However, the obstacle for a deal getting done, according to Corriere, ‘appears to be an old procuration that wasn’t honoured by AS Roma in dealings with Torreira’s agent’.
Over at Gazzetta dello Sport, the story is far simpler, as the newspaper report that particular idea, one of a Torreira-Diawara swap, is currently ‘on standby’, which has led to rumours of an interest in Chelsea’s Jorginho.
Believe who you want, but the bottom line from those two articles is Arsenal have to make do with the Uruguayan for now, regardless of how badly they might want his Guinea international counterpart.
