Bought for just under £40m, the fact that Granit Xhaka isn’t a sure fire starter at Arsenal is a bit of a question mark, yet the midfielder appears to be adapting rather nicely in England.
The Switzerland international has only been started by Wenger in nine out of a potential 20 games, albeit three of those missed games were through a red card suspension picked up against Swansea back in October.
Moving from Borussia Mönchengladbach, and being from Switzerland, the player has been helped a lot by the German contingent already present at the Emirates, a group he feels a part of, as explained to SportBild in an interview on Wednesday.
He said: “I talk a lot with Mesut, Per or Shkodran because of the language, but I also have a lot of fun with the Spaniards, and the English, we have a colourful group. My English also isn’t too bad, so I can communicate with everyone.”
Speaking of Mesut Özil, the Switzerland captain had some kind words to say about the German playmaker, who is enjoying a rather successful season so far, picking up seven goals and four assists in 17 appearances.
He said: “Mesut has a quality that I personally have never experienced before. He has an absolutely magical left foot, is fast, even if that sometimes doesn’t appear to be the case. He works a lot for the team. For me, he is one of the best tens in the world.”
Living just outside of London, the player also explained his favourite part was being able to walk around the ‘great and exciting’ city largely unnoticed due to the ‘many stars running around’.
All in all, it seems Xhaka isn’t regretting his move to Arsenal, and that’s all you can ask for.
