There’s still a chance that Flamengo defender Pablo Mari could be signing for Arsenal this month, according to reports from Brazil.

Journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira says a deal could still be done, as long as the Gunners improve their offer for the 26-year-old.

On his Youtube channel, the reporter claims the London side have no money to make the signing now, and that’s why they’ve been trying to get the player on a loan deal.

But it makes no sense for Flamengo to loan out a regular starter with no guarantee that Arsenal would buy him later. That’s why the Rio de Janeiro side are waiting for the Gunners to pay an initial fee now or sign a doccument showing they will buy the player in the summer.

The journalist says this is the only way for a deal to happen, and live on ESPN last night, he’s claimed that the move could cost Arsenal up to €15m.

Pablo Mari even travelled to London at the weekend, but due to the lack of an agreement between the clubs, he’s now expected to rejoin Flamengo’s squad until things are sorted.
