Perhaps Gabriel Martinelli won’t be the only Brazilian with this surname playing for Arsenal in the coming years.

That’s because according to fresh reports, the Gunners have made an approach for Fluminense youngster Matheus Martinelli.

Globo Esporte says Arsenal were one of the clubs who have scouts following him and started contacts with his staff to gather more information on his situation.

Since these are only initial contacts, there are still no talks with Fluminense or any signs of a potential bid for now.

Martinelli is protected by a release clause of €40m, and according to Globo Esporte, both the player and his staff aren’t thinking of a transfer to Europe right now, as he’d like to enjoy more time at Fluminense. Especially because he’s getting the first chance to feature in Copa Libertadores this season.

The Rio de Janeiro side sold Richarlison and João Pedro to Watford and are about to confirm Kayky’s transfer to Manchester City. So it looks like Premier League sides are all keeping an eye on their talents.
