As much as we have our doubts about Arsene Wenger being interested in Mauro Icardi, given the whole circus he comes with, it can’t be ignored that a possible transfer is reported repeatedly in the Italian media.

The latest comes from Calciomercato, who say on Thursday that Arsenal are still lingering in the background and considering a deal for the player. Napoli are of course linked too, as they look to sign a replacement for Gonzalo Higuain.

Calciomercato say that Arsenal have started talks with the entourage of Icardi, which would suggest a high level of interest. They also add that the player’s wife, and agent, Wanda Nara is expected in London today or tomorrow.

Nara will stay in London for a week, and Calciomercato say Arsenal ‘want to get serious’. Having previously claimed Arsenal interest, and hinted at travelling to London, we’ve always thought it was the Icardi camp encouraging Arsenal, or encouraging Arsenal rumours.
