Arsenal star Leandro Trossard has found himself being defend by his father after coming in for criticism at Euro 2024.
Trossard senior has been speaking to De Morgen, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, regarding his son and laid the blame on Domenico Tedesco’s shoulders for his disappointing display in Belgium’s shock defeat to Slovakia.
Trossard is a key player in the Belgium squad and headed to Germany in good form after an impressive season with Arsenal that saw him manage 17 goals and two assists in 46 games in all competitions.
He’s thrived at the Emirates since joining Arsenal from Brighton but is yet to get going at Euro 2024.
He managed 74 minutes in the 1-0 loss to Slovakia but was largely ineffective, missing one glorious chance to score when the opposition goalkeeper was caught out of goal and failing to set up Romelu Lukaku for an easy chance later on.
His performance was roundly criticised after the game, with many pointing out the Arsenal man as one of the chief underperformers in Belgium’s shock 1-0 defeat.
His father is having none of that, though, and believes Belgium boss Tedesco is to blame for how things have gone so far for his son.
“I don’t think Tedesco is a good trainer for Belgium. Although he doesn’t have the stubbornness of Roberto Martínez,” he said.
“Leandro gets criticized, but he was moved from one position to another. That way you don’t get a line in your game.
“Don’t underestimate those Romanians, Ukraine was not involved in their first match. But hopefully I’m wrong, the Belgians win and the enthusiasm flares up.”
