Three games in, already five points behind the Premier League leaders.
This wasn’t the start to the season Arsène Wenger wanted, nor was it what Arsenal fans were expecting, even with a below par transfer window.
There’s still a very, very long way to go before the title is decided, and that’s what the players are believing in, at least according to Olivier Giroud.
Speaking to Le Dauphiné in France ahead of the first international break of the season, the former Montpellier striker explained that if they want to achieve their goal, they can’t make many more mistakes.
He said: “We are aiming for the title, we have the potential to do so, but clubs like Manchester United, with Ibra, have had a good start to the season. We’ll see. In any case, it will be important not to let any other points slip against smaller teams.”
As for whether or not the league is harder to win this year, Giroud admits it’ll be tough: “The team who wins the Premier League, you’ll really have to tip your hat to them.”
Just about fit enough to join up with the France squad ahead of a friendly against Italy and the first World Cup 2018 qualification game against Bielorussia, Giroud has so far only played 12 minutes of competitive football this season (against Leicester).
