Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud has been selected in Gazzetta dello Sport’s European Team of the Week for last weekend’s round of matches.
Each week the Italian newspaper selects the best eleven players outside of Serie A, and this week Giroud has been picked after his performance against Sunderland on Saturday.
Giroud was Arsenal’s saviour at the weekend after coming on as a second half substitute in his side’s 4-1 victory over Sunderland. With the score level at 1-1 the France international scored two goals for Arsene Wenger’s side before Alexis Sanchez wrapped up the game. Giroud’s goals were his first in all competitions this season.
Giroud wasn’t the only Premier League player to be included in the European Team of the Week with Burnley pair Michael Keane and Tom Heaton making the cut along with Crystal Palace’s James McArthur and Liverpool’s Joel Matip.
Giroud will be hoping his performance at the weekend can help him force his back into Wenger’s starting eleven after seeing his chances limited this season. The Frenchman has played just four Premier League games this season with Wenger preferring to play Sanchez in the No.9 position.
