Arsenal star Olivier Giroud was sent off in the club’s match against Paris-Saint Germain, and is set to miss their Champions League match against Basel, but probably would have been out anyway.
The French forward was introduced in the dying minutes of the game against Chelsea at the weekend, but Arsene Wenger confirmed he picked up an injury, and is doubtful for the match against Burnley.
According to French website L’Equipe, Giroud could also miss out on international duty next week. France are scheduled to play Bulgaria and the Netherlands, and Giroud could be left out due to his injury.
The 29-year-old hasn’t started a single game for Arsenal this season, as Wenger prefers Alexis Sanchez up front and also didn’t feel Giroud was completely up to speed on fitness.
Giroud returned late for pre-season training due to his involvement with France at the Euros, and wasn’t able to catch up enough to please Wenger.
Missing the international break may prove to be a good thing for Giroud, as that’d allow him to stay back at the club and improve his fitness levels.
