Explaining on Thursday morning that he would rather prefer to stay at Arsenal than manage Barcelona, Arsène Wenger certainly doesn’t sound like a man on the verge of leaving.

Of course, a lot depends on how well the Gunners do in both the Premier League and the Champions League, although the latter seems like a lost cause after a 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the first leg of the first knockout round.

With a lot of concern also being placed on the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil at the Emirates, one man who committed to Arsenal this season was Olivier Giroud, signing an extension until 2019.

The France international was invited on RMC’s Team Duga to discuss all things Arsenal, including his boss’ future, who he feels might be around for a while longer.

He said: “I hope, like my teammates, that the manager will stay because I’m convinced we aren’t that far away from winning the Premier League. Of course, my belief is that he will stay, but it wasn’t a factor in my choice to renew because we’d decided on that well before the Euros”.

Normally a key member of Wenger’s Arsenal team, Olivier Giroud has seen his time on the pitch somewhat reduced this season, with the French manager preferring to use Sanchez through the middle more often than not.

Despite this, the former Montpellier striker has still managed to score 11 goals and pick up five assists in 24 appearances in all competitions this season, averaging a goal every 92 minutes.
