Arsenal’s need for a new centre back has been well documented this summer, with many considering it the priority position they need to fill before the deadline.
Earlier this week saw them make a bid for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano and Kicker cover that bid today.
They say the Gunners interest in Upamecano is well known and longstanding, and that the Gunners have gone from scouting him to being ‘seriously’ interested in signing him.
Arsenal bid ‘well over’ €60m to try and make that happen but the proposal was rejected outright by Leipzig. They’ve made it clear they will not sell the 20-year-old this summer.
Kicker claim that Upamecano has a €90m release clause, which was apparently revealed as by Der Spiegel/Football Leaks, but Arsenal would be ‘unwilling’ to match that price.
With RB Leipzig refusing to sell and the price being out of their reach, they would be better suited looking elsewhere at this stage of the window.
