Before Arsenal fans start reading this story, we should probably tell them to keep calm, as the news hasn’t been reported by any major outlets in Portugal yet.
However, according to Leonino, a Sporting dedicated news outlet, the Gunners are ‘very close’ to signing Viktor Gyokeres. They present this claim as a big exclusive, and they’re not usually headfirst into the rumour mill.
Leonino claim that there are only ‘financial details’ holding up the agreement for now, although there are no details on how much money Arsenal are offering.
Like we said, we better wait for the more traditional newspapers in Portugal to say something about that, but the claims sound exciting for the Gunners.
Sporting only spent €21m to sign Gyokeres from Coventry City last summer. In his first season in Portugal, he scored 43 goals and contributed 15 assists in 50 appearances.
His exit after one year with the Lions seemed obvious at first, but the truth is that he’s suggested he should stay for 2024/25, and that’s why rumours disappeared recently.
Now if Arsenal are actually making a move for him, we should soon get to see the news spread all over the Portuguese media.
