Arsenal are yet to convince Eden Hazard to join them this summer, with the forward having made it clear he would like to stay at Real Madrid.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say Arsenal are keen on Belgian, but he’s not swaying as yet.

They explain that the 31-year-old currently plans to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, despite Real Madrid making it clear they would like him to leave, even if it is on loan.

Arsenal have come back for him as Mikel Arteta pushes to improve his squad in the summer and initiated ‘first contacts’ with Real Madrid about a move a while back.

That was a simple enquiry at first, but the Gunners have ‘returned to the charge’ this week, and a new meeting took place to discuss a possible ‘loan with an option to buy’ for next season.

However, the deal is far form being completed because Hazard does not want to leave the Spanish giants this summer.

At the moment, he even plans to see out his contract, which ends in two years time, and the Belgian is convinced he can still succeed at the Bernabeu next season.

That’s despite the fact he’s had three difficult seasons at the club since arriving from Chelsea, hasn’t managed 90 minutes once this year, and will be pushed further down the pecking order by the arrival of stars likes Kylian Mbappé this summer.

Hazard would prefer to stay where he is, particularly ahead of the World Cup, so Arsenal need to work hard to convince him to change that plan.
