Arsenal are the latest club to join the race for Brazilian starlet Vitor Roque, according to local reports.
Outlet Goal today features a story about the competition for his signing. They say it’s currently Barcelona who are in the lead, as they opened talks with Athlético-PR for the transfer.
But many other clubs are alive in the battle as well. Arsenal are named as a side who ‘recently made an approach’ for the signing, and compete with the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle United and Paris Saint Germain.
Vitor Roque turns 18 this month, and that means he’ll be able to move to Europe next summer. Goal says Barcelona’s idea is to have a deal before the window opens, so that’s a sign for the other competitors to start making their moves as well.
Even though Athlético had been saying they’re only letting him go for €60m, which is the price for his release clause, they’re actually open to negotiate those numbers with those who actually open talks for the transfer.
Goal says that Arsenal’s approach was made through Edu Gaspar, with the Gunners’ chief contacting the player’s staff to know about his situation at the club.
It’s claimed that all interested clubs are keen on making a bid for him.
