Arsenal are about to make an attempt for the signing of Santos star Marcos Leonardo, according to reports from Brazil.
R7 journalist Fabiano Farah writes that the Gunners are currently ‘preparing’ a €17m offer to get the striker landed in the January transfer window.
Santos have just been relegated to the second division, and the story claims Marcos Leonardo does not want to stay there for the next year.
It’s said Arsenal ‘entered strongly’ in the fight for his signing, even though the player is also monitored by Manchester United.
It’s pretty much known that Marcos Leonardo is about to be sold, and the report claims that he won’t even join the squad when they start their pre-season on the 6th of January.
Santos’ board are not expected to make his exit difficult, as the sale was already promised to him, and only demand that most of the payment is made up front.
Now it’s up for Arsenal to make the move, although it’d be no surprise if other clubs also place their bids in the coming weeks. It’s worth recalling that Newcastle have also been linked.
