With the Romelu Lukaku saga now over and Inter replacing him with Edin Dzeko, there is just one club left scrambling around Europe for sales and purchases, and that’s AS Roma.

Despite wanting to give José Mourinho the best squad possible, the Serie A side have hit more stumbling blocks than expected, starting with the one involving Granit Xhaka and Arsenal.

The two clubs were in a long stalemate over the Swiss midfielder’s transfer, but no agreement was found, and Mikel Arteta swiftly clarified the situation by stating his player would be remaining at the Emirates for the current season.

There was even talk of a new contract, but that has yet to be confirmed, and Corriere dello Sport reckon the Xhaka-Roma-Arsenal triangle might not be over just yet.

Looking at some of the deals the Italians could do that don’t directly involve Tammy Abraham, the need for a new midfielder is discussed.

They explain talks for Xhaka ‘could sensationally come back into play’ if Roma decide to move on from the Chelsea striker and focus on Alexandre Lacazette instead.

The belief is that ‘Arsenal want to sell him one year before his contract expires in order to buy Abraham and could even insert’ the former Basel starlet ‘at a more reasonable price for Roma’, just so the deals could fit into the same pattern.

It’s added that a ‘well-known intermediary from Rome offered Lacazette two days ago to Tiago Pinto, who is hesitating for the moment’, as going after the Frenchman would mean giving up on the Chelsea forward, whom he prefers.

A complicated situation involving three clubs, but there is a recipe in there, somewhere, that could please everyone.

You just have to find the right ingredients.
