It’s been a while since we heard from David Ospina’s father, but the goalkeeper’s head injury at the weekend caused the local Naples media to contact Hernan to find out how his son was doing.
Suffering a severe blow to the head in the first half of the 4-2 win against Udinese, the Colombian was eventually replaced by Alex Meret in the 44th minute, and was sent to intensive treatment, with his wife since saying he’s returned home.
Reassuring everyone that the Arsenal loanee should be fine after two weeks or so away from the pitch, Ospina’s father also took some time to explain the situation regarding his Emirates future.
He told Radio CRC, relayed by Calciomercato: “We’re waiting for him to reach the number of appearances that would trigger the clause taking him from the Gunners to Napoli. He’s happy to play in Naples, it’s what he wants. There’s also been positive signs from the club. It makes him very happy because his children are happy to live in a city like Naples.”
Set at 25 appearances, the clause should be triggered in four games, as the 30-year-old has made started 21 matches this season, during which he’s kept seven clean sheets and conceded 22 goals.
With 10 games left in Serie A and the Europa League still to play for, there’s a good chance, if Ospina returns from his injury fully fit, he will appear in enough games to complete his exit from Arsenal.
Carlo Ancelotti wants him, and it seems Aurelio de Laurentiis does too.
