Having already brought back Tanguy Ndombélé on loan, Lyon tried to also sign another former player of theirs in January: Alexandre Lacazette.
L’Equipe are the ones reporting it, making it clear that the Ligue 1 side tried ‘in vain’ to attract the Gunners’ striker during the winter transfer window, but all hope isn’t lost yet.
They make it clear the player ‘could return to Lyon next summer’, although the deal ‘will not be easy to pull off’.
That being said, a few things are ‘converging’ for it to happen, especially the fact the player ‘has always kept a strong link with his club’, said to be ‘regularly bringing up with Samuel Umtiti and Corentin Tolisso the dream of ending up at OL together’ once again.
His contract situation helps too, with the Arsenal man’s deal running out in the summer, but a move in January was ‘unimaginable’, both for him and Mikel Arteta.
In fact, there’s also a chance he could be offered a new contract, a short-term one, ‘for one or two seasons’.
What stands in the way, though, isn’t the player’s age, but more his wages, since he has the third highest salary at Arsenal, and Lyon would have to offer him ‘an unprecedented wage or a really long contract’ for him to return.
One to keep an eye on, but it does indeed look difficult for Lyon to pull off.
