Arsenal’s Jorginho has less than six months left on his contract and Flamengo are keen on signing him this month.
The winter market in the UK closed on Monday but the one in Brazil is open until the end of this month. Therefore, Flamengo are working to try and sign the midfielder in February.
Last week, we covered claims from Brazil which stated Flamengo technical director José Boto is doing his best to sign the Arsenal player.
UOL now state Flamengo see the 33-year-old’s ‘getting closer, but there are still economic difference’.
Agent João Santos represents the Brazil-born Italy international and hasn’t held talks with Flamengo for this client.
UOL state intermediary Dudu Baptista is negotiating with Boto and the Brazilian club and Baptista was appointed by Jorginho. They add Santos is expected to meet the Flamengo director in the next few days.
Boto claims both parties are keen and he aims to close the operation as early as possible. There are still economic differences between Flamengo and the player, which the report says was greater at one point.
UOL haven’t mentioned whether the Gunners are open to sanctioning a move especially considering they can’t sign a replacement.
They add it’s ‘not ruled out’ for Arsenal to offer Jorginho a new contract, but the report states a decision won’t be made until the summer. This suggests the north London club plan to have Jorginho for the rest of this season.
