Arsenal are one of the clubs to have Elche CF’s Rodrigo Mendoza on their radar.
That’s according to Información, a newspaper local to Elche, and they cover Arsenal and wider interest in Mendoza.
The winger has two goals from 10 matches so far this season. His form and development at the La Liga side and his potential have caught the attention of others.
On Monday, Tuttosport reported Juventus’ desire to sign the 20-year-old. They also said Manchester City and Real Madrid are in the picture. Información relay that and then share their own take on this case.
Real Madrid and Valencia from Spain and Como from Italy have been following the Spain U21 international.
It’s claimed there’s interest from the Premier League, where there’s generally better financial resources. Arsenal are the only club mentioned, and the report says their scouts have regularly watched Mendoza live in action this season.
The Gunners are keeping an eye on the player’s progress at Elche. He has a €20m release clause. This would be affordable for Mikel Arteta’s side if they were to decide to make further advances.
For now, Arsenal have sent their officials to watch the Spaniard, and it’s not a given that they will try to sign him.
Journalist David Marín covered this report and on Monday, he told Tutto Juve that there will “certainly be offers” for him in January. He also floated the idea of a club signing Mendoza and sending him back on loan to Elche in the winter market.
