Shkodran Mustafi has reached an agreement with Arsenal to end his contract, paving the way for his move to Schalke.

That’s according to Sport Bild journalist Kilian Gaffrey, who says the final hurdle in a quickly developing transfer saga has now been cleared.

Mustafi has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates this month, with him out of favour at Arsenal and his contract expiring in the summer.

Reports today have linked him with Schalke, who are believed to be keen on signing him as a replacement for Ozan Kabak, who is on the verge of joining Liverpool.

Reports earlier today stated that Kabak’s move to Liverpool was dependant on Mustafi agreeing to terminate his deal at Arsenal, with that proving problematic.

Less than an hour ago, Bild’s Gaffrey said the move was ‘stalling’ but now has a more positive update, stating that the player has reached an agreement with the Gunners to end his contract there.

That means the ‘final hurdle’ in the ‘complicated’ transfer triangle has now been cleared, with Mustafi free to join Schalke and thus, Kabak free to finalise his move to Liverpool before tonight’s deadline.
