Arsenal are currently ahead of Chelsea in the race for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, but his future will go to a ‘photo finish’.
That’s according to La Repubblica, relayed by Area Napoli, who report that it is ‘Arsenal more than Chelsea’ for the striker at this moment in time.
Osimhen had been expected to leave Napoli in a big money move this summer but has found his options more limited that he would have perhaps thought.
Chelsea seemed to be the obvious choice and numerous reports have linked them with a move for him but that has never come to fruition.
Arsenal have also been thrown into the mix, with everyone convinced that they need an elite level striker to really challenge again this season.
They too, though, have never seriously moved, instead spending their money on Riccardo Calafiori and now Mikel Merino.
Other options such as PSG have also fallen by the wayside, leaving Osimhen at Napoli and wondering what comes next.
While the transfer window remains open there is still the chance, he can get the move he wants and La Repubblica report that in England, it is Arsenal more than Chelsea at this moment in time.
“Romelu Lukaku is now arriving, but the Osimhen situation is still to be resolved,” they are quoted as saying.
“For Victor we will go to a photo finish (the gong for negotiations is expected next Friday at midnight). The idea is to find him a place in the Premier League (Arsenal more than Chelsea) but with the substitute already in his pocket, otherwise the times risk not coinciding.
“Hence the strong pressure from Napoli to close Lukaku immediately, without waiting for the Nigerian’s (possible) farewell.
“The presence for days in London of the sporting director, Giovanni Manna, is a clear signal of the desire to define the negotiation and deliver to Conte is his new reference center forward. There is no more time to waste.”
