It’s a familiar story for the Catalan media, a young player is much wanted by nearly all of the world’s biggest clubs but he wants to join Barcelona ahead of any of them.

The Catalan media have been reporting stories like this for decades, and the latest footballer they believe is in love with Barcelona is Vitor Roque.

Currently playing for Athletico Paranaense in Brazil, the 18-year-old is of interest to clubs including Arsenal and Chelsea, but the insistence around the Camp Nou is that he only wants the Blaugrana.

Arsenal clearly haven’t got the memo, because reports over the past week have made it clear the Gunners are moving seriously for the youngster.

The player’s agent was said to have traveled to London, where he met both Arsenal and Chelsea, and it’s Mikel Arteta’s side who have been pushed out in front.

Edu Gaspar is said to have presented a plan for Vitor Roque’s future, and sold a project to his camp. The Brazilians currently at Arsenal are also seen as an attraction.

Friday’s edition of Sport has the player on their front page. Inside it’s stated Arsenal ‘mobilise’ for his signing and are making efforts.

Over at Mundo Deportivo, it’s explained Arsenal are ‘pressing’ for the transfer, and look to be the club making the most effort right now.

Barcelona are famously having money issues, and Sport say that means they may have to delay an effort for Vitor Roque by as much as a year.

For that to work they need to make sure he’s not tempted even slightly by Arsenal, and that could be a gamble.
