Close to returning to AS Saint-Etienne on loan late in the last transfer window, William Saliba was eventually forced to stay at Arsenal for the first half of the campaign.

Unused by Mikel Arteta to date, the young defender is in dire need of first-team football to continue his development, which is former club would be more than welcome to offer him from January onwards.

That’s been mentioned by But! Football Club, who tend to be good when it comes to Saint-Etienne, in the past, and they’re at it again on Tuesday.

Publishing an article about Saliba, they explain the 19-year-old is attracting attention from another Ligue 1 club, learning OGC Nice looked at the Arsenal man’s situation following Dante’s season ending injury, who tried to find out if a loan was possible in January.

They did so with both the Gunners and the defender’s entourage, but But! state his preference would be a return to Saint-Etienne.

The only thing that could stop Saliba from ending up at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in January would be if Arteta turns to him to try and stop a poor run of form in the Premier League that has seen them pick up just four points from a possible 15 from the past five games.

Until then, however, a January move will continuously be mooted until it happens.

That’s just how these things work.
