Arsenal have been strongly linked to Viktor Gyokeres for much of the season and the Sporting CP player appears to be their major target for the summer window.
Other strikers have been dragged in along the way, however, they’ve tended to fall away to be replaced by another alternative, with the Sweden international remaining there as the constant.
Tuesday’s edition of Correio da Manhã reports Arsenal have sent directors to Lisbon to prepare the transfer.
Arsenal Women beat Barcelona at the weekend in the Champions League final and had officials in Lisbon for that match. Around the game, it’s reported they met Hasan Çetinkaya, Gyokeres agent.
The Gunners are said to have presented an offer ‘worth around €70m, plus a target-based fee. The player is expected to receive a signing bonus of €12m, an annual salary of €7m and a five-year contract.’
Çetinkaya is expected to present all of this to Sporting president Frederico Varandas during a meeting ‘in the next few hours’. Varandas had refused to hold meetings regarding Gyokeres’ future ahead of the cup final against Benfica, with Sporting winning and securing their first double in 23 years.
Bayern Munich have also asked for information about the player, although it’s Arsenal who are presented as being out in front.
