Arsenal and Liverpool seem to have gained a boost in the race for Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kökcü.
For weeks, the Portuguese media had been featuring stories claiming Benfica were also interested in the 22-year-old, who’s stood out in Eredivisie this season.
However, as newspaper Record writes about this chase today, they point out there are a couple of issues that should make the Eagles give up on the signing.
The first of them is the price for Kökcü, following reports from the Dutch media which say Feyenoord will demand €40m for his sale. The Eagles are not expected to spend that much.
The second issue is the competition for the signing, with Record mentioning that Arsenal and Liverpool are both keen on the 22-year-old.
Record explains that Kökcü is still a ‘desire’ for Benfica, with manager Roger Schmidt desiring his signing, but this situation puts him far from the Lisbon club.
Arsenal and Liverpool are both said to be ‘watching’ the midfielder, who had 12 goals and five assists in 45 games this season. La Liga side Sevilla are another club who promise to fight for his signing this summer.
