Since Arsenal announced the signing of Nicolas Pépé in a €80m deal, it became quite clear they wouldn’t spend a lot on another winger.

That’s why despite reporting that the Gunners would be preparing a bid for the Grêmio attacker Everton, the Brazilian press left the subject aside a little.

Now Globo Esporte has a story on the player, and they include a few details on Arsenal’s chase for him.

They say Edu Gaspar called Everton’s agent Gilmar Veloz and asked about the cost of his signing. Arsenal were ‘astonished’ with the answer.

Globo Esporte doesn’t say it now, but at that time, it was being reported Grêmio were demanding €40m for the sale. Since they only own 50% of the player’s rights, it’s quite possible he would cost the full €80m.

Another reason for Globo Esporte’s story today is that Grêmio rejected an offer from China for Everton. An unnamed club made a bid of €45m, and the Brazilian side demanded €60m.
