Earlier on Tuesday, we covered the early reports regarding Arsenal’s return to try and sign Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna, as they look to find cover in defence after their poor start to the season.

It was claimed the Gunners had overtaken Spurs in the race, but a formal offer had yet to arrive.

Well, that could change, as Calciomercato.it claim Arsenal are ‘now pushing’ to sign the Japanese player, and the ‘intermediary who is conducting the negotiations is flying towards Bologna to present’ the offer from the Gunners.

That would be to ‘complete the transaction’, and the whole matter is described as a ‘race against time’.

Despite that, Arsenal ‘want to try to go all the way be exploiting’ the player’s desire to move to the Premier League ‘as well as the need’ of the Serie A club, who value their player at €23-25m.

We’ll have to see what comes of this, but it’s clear the Gunners are going to make a real attempt at signing Tomiyasu, which, in turn, could unlock the departure of Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
