Arsenal interest in Montpellier youngster Elye Wahi is again being highlighted by the French media.
This time it’s Foot Mercato who claim the Gunners have been ‘learning’ about the ‘phenomenon’ from Ligue 1.
It’s said Arsenal have had the player’s name ‘checked’ for several months, and following his recent performances for Montpellier, their attention has ‘intensified’.
The Gunners, however, are said to be in no hurry for the signing. Foot Mercato claims the club have no plans to ‘go on the offensive’, and there are two reasons for that. Firstly, because Montpellier are ‘not a seller’ and a deal wouldn’t be easy. Then there’s the fact that Arsenal’s squad are well served with great attackers.
That’s why Wahi’s departure from the French club remains ‘unlikely’ in the middle of the season, but still ‘more than possible’ in the summer. It’s said he has an estimated price of over €30m already.
Foot Mercato mention that Arsenal’s interest in the youngster isn’t new, and they seem to be right, as back in February 2021, the French media had already claimed he was receiving attention from the London side.
With Wahi now having seven goals for Montpellier this season, he seems to be confirming his potential, making the Gunners more sure about his quality.
