Towards the end of June, we covered claims from Spain that Arsenal are in the picture to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García this summer.
Last month, Sport reported the 23-year-old has awakened interest from Arsenal and a few other clubs.
On Tuesday, claims from England said Arsenal have identified García as a candidate to replace Aaron Ramsdale, if he were to leave the Emirates this summer.
Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo relays that and then provides their own information on this case.
Mundo say it’s not surprising his ‘unstoppable growth’ has attracted interest from other clubs. The Spain U23 international’s deal lasts until 2028, and includes a €25m release clause.
Espanyol have stressed on several occasions that the stopper isn’t on the market. Mundo point that out and add García’s clause will increase to €30m from August 15th.
This means Arsenal have to pay more to sign the goalkeeper from Thursday. Mundo state this would put the La Liga side in a better position when negotiating with the Gunners or another club.
