Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid are in the mix to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García in the summer window.
The Gunners saw their €20m bid rejected towards the end of last summer. This hasn’t put off Arsenal, who are still keen on signing him for next season.
Arsenal aren’t alone as Manchester City and Real Madrid are looking at the 23-year-old. That’s according to La Grada Ràdio‘s Robert Hernando, who previously worked as an advisor for Espanyol.
La Grada Ràdio points out Hernando is well-informed about the La Liga side and doesn’t share any updates for the sake of it. He claims Real Madrid have already been mentioned and are now very serious about the stopper.
Arsenal have long been interested in securing the Spain U23 international’s services. He’s not only wanted by Mikel Arteta’s side but also from Manchester City from the Premier League.
Como are determined to acquire García’s signature, but they would find it difficult to get the deal over the line. That’s because he favours a move to Real Madrid or England, where Arsenal and Manchester City are keen.
If Real Madrid were to sign García, they could let him continue at Espanyol on loan for a year or two. Hernando claims this can allow them to secure the goalkeeping position for the long-term.
Earlier this month, El Periódico stated García is likely to leave after this season and his club have identified a replacement. He has a €25m clause which will increase by €5m for the last 15 days of the window.
In short, a summer move is on the cards for the Spaniard and Arsenal face competition from Manchester City and Real Madrid.
