Arsenal ‘have rejected’ an €8m offer from Monaco to sign midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga this month.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say Arsenal were not interested in selling the 23-year-old defensive midfielder.
They explain that Monaco are continuing their efforts to rebuild their squad this month, particularly after Benoit Badiashile’s departure to Chelsea.
They are now focused on arrivals and had tried to ‘strengthen’ with the signing of Lokonga, lodging an €8m bid with the Gunners.
That was rejected by Arsenal, who were seemingly not willing to sell the Belgian midfielder despite the fact he has manage just six appearances in the Premier League this season.
That’s a far cry from last season when he made 19 in total but Thomas Partey’s superb performances and Granit Xhaka’s continued resurgence have limited him to just two starts in the league thus far.
Monaco seemingly tried to take advantage of that and offer Arsenal a chance to get some of their money back but it appears those in charge at the Emirates weren’t interested.
Whether the Ligue 1 side will return with another bid before the end of the window remains to be seen.
