Arsenal are in the picture to sign Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo, according to claims from Italy.
The left-back has less than 12 months left on his contract and has not signed an extension so far with the club. That has not impacted his game time as he he’s started 12 matches in all competitions this season.
His performances and contract situation have seen a few clubs take notice, including Arsenal.
Calciomercato.it state the Spaniard remains in Juventus’ sights for the winter market. Apart from them, the Gunners, Manchester City and Barcelona ‘have gathered information on his situation’ in recent months.
With a contract expiring in 2023, the report states that Benfica could be in favour of letting the defender leave in January, in order to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.
Although Grimaldo’s situation may encourage his suitors to make an approach in the next window, it may not make sense for the north London club to sign him, considering they have invested on Oleksandr Zinchenko in the last window.
Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney are currently the two left-backs at the Emirates. In addition to the duo, Arsenal also have Nuno Tavares, who is on loan at Marseille.
