The Portuguese media continues to be very sure that Arsenal are one of the contenders to sign Ousmane Diomande.
As newspaper O Jogo today writes about Sporting’s effort to sign Zeno Debast from Anderlecht, they point out that the Lions will need to sell a centre-back due to ‘financial balance’.
Diomande is said to be one of the ‘main candidates’ to leave the Lisbon side, and then it’s claimed he’s ‘highly thought of’ by Arsenal, who’ve been linked for a while now.
This time, O Jogo doesn’t say how much the Ivorian centre-back is set to cost, and we actually something to say about that.
Even though Sporting had a great season and won the league title, Diomande has been unimpressive for a few months now, with many pundits criticising him recently.
The local media even admitted that despite the defender’s €80m release clause, the Lisbon are willing to give a discount and sell him for between €50m and €60m.
That means a great chance for Arsenal, but also a warning that the player isn’t having his best days. The Gunners surely have all the information they need before making such a big investment, and it should soon be revealed whether Mikel Arteta really wants the player or if that kind of story is just wishful thinking from the Lisbon press.
